Jill's Away & Boys Will Play

Last week was a busy one. Starting with the Griffith Park Fire causing havoc for my commute. I normally cut through the park on my way home.

Jill then left for NYC and the Telemundo Upfronts, big selling season for TV, leaving the boys home without a mom to celebrate Mothers Day with. More to follow about this.

Bank of America is doing something this month that is mighty commendable, if you have a BofA account you can get into a bunch of museums across the US for free. Chick here for more details. So Griffin and I decided to take advantage of this while Jill is gone.

Our weekend started with a Pancake breakfast in Hollywood for the LA Firefight Appreciation Day. We went to the LAFD Museum and checked out some old and new fire engines. Then to Kidspace Museum for some croc hunting.

Sunday was Mother's Day and with Mom out of town, we were invited to Jill's nephew's place for a family celebration. On the way down to San Clemente, we stopped in at the Discovery Science Center for some Dino fun. All and all a pretty good time was had sans Jill :(

A couple shots of the fire from our back yard.

Thomas the Obsession

We are well into our "2's" with Griffin. His mind seems to latch onto something and like a monkey with his hand in a box trap, he sometimes doesn't let go.

Thomas the Tank Engine is his current favorite show. Granted, we don't give him much to choose from...Sesame Street, Bob the Builder, or Little Einsteins. Now, I'm pretty sure there are some blog readers have not heard of some or all of these shows. So, I'll let you do your own research. Each one has its pros and cons.

The Thomas gang has some sharp marketing gurus working for them. They came up with a "Day Out with Thomas", where parents pay an overpriced admission to actually ride on a train pulled by "Thomas". So, of course we had to go.

Griffin loved it and in the end that is all that really matters, but both Jill and I thought it could have been a bit more polished and imaginative. Of course we bought the tickets 2 months in advance and could not predict the weather...when the big day came, it was rainy and cold. Griffin and Thomas didn't seem to mind.

Serious Thomas fan

Kissing or eating Thomas I'm not sure.

Wow Thomas can move! (at 5mph)

Later the same weekend, the weather cleared up and we went exploring and found a new trailhead near us. It's called Deukmejian Wilderness Park /Le Mesnager Barn and has an interesting little history behind the barn.
